  • Day 2: Hanoi City tour (B, L)
Today is our chance to see Hanoi. We will see the highlights of the city: Ho Chi Minh’s Residence and Mausoleum, the Temple of Literature and a famous Pagoda. After lunch we visit the Hanoi Museum and enjoy a cyclo tour of the French Quarter and its teeming streets filled with fascinating shops. Again you sleep in the Hanoi hotel
  • Day 3: Hanoi - Halong (B, L, D)
After breakfast we take a coach to the fabulous Halong Bay, created in Vietnamese folklore by a descending dragon. We will have our own boat, built in the style of a Chinese junk, opulently decorated. After we set off we have a terrific silver service lunch on board as we head for the Sung Sot cave and its limestone structures. In the soft Vietnamese night you can try your hand at fishing. You sleep anchored in the bay, rocked by the gentle ocean waves.
  • Day 4: Halong - Hanoi (Brunch)
We continue cruising on the bay until just after lunch when we dock again at Halong City. Our coach will meet us and return us to our Hanoi hotel for some free time. Tonight is our last in this city as in the morning we will set off on one of the most interesting trips of the tour.
  • Day 5: Hanoi - Mai Chau (B, L, D)
Today we travel by coach close to the hill village of Mai Chau so that a 2 hour trek through agricultural Vietnam brings us to a traditional White Thai village. We will be met by our host with a traditional tea ceremony. We can walk around the village, meeting the people and looking at the handicrafts for sale. That night we will sleep in the thatched home after an optional ceremony of dance.
  • Day 6: Mai Chau - Hanoi - Overnight train to Hue (B, L)
After breakfast with the family, we return to Hanoi. Now it is time to leave Hanoi and move on to Hue. To save time and as a change from the coach we will travel by overnight sleeper train. Since we are not checked into a hotel, we have arranged some Day Rooms at the hotel to store our luggage and a place to freshen up. There will be time for shopping before we go to the station to catch our train.
  • Day 7: Hue - City tour (L)
After the morning arrival in Hue we check into our hotel. We go to a restaurant for lunch before boarding our private Dragon Boat on the Perfume River, so named because of the Emperor’s incense burner while establishing the site of the Forbidden City. We make two stops to visit the Thien Mu Pagoda and Tu Duc’s Tomb. That night we sleep in the hotel in Hue.
  • Day 8: Hue – Hoi An (B, L)
Our coach takes us to Hoi An today. Hoi An is one of the prettiest towns in Vietnam and a multi - cultural trading centre from ancient times. We lunch in a restaurant beside the river before undertaking a heritage walking tour, visiting historic sites of the old quarter and the sprawling marketplace. Hoi An is famous for its tailoring shops and men and women on the tour will be able to have clothes made for them overnight which can be delivered to our hotel before we leave in the morning.
  • Day 9: Hoian (B)
Spend the day relaxing on private beach, or participating in a cooking class, shopping or spoiling yourself in the resort spa. Overnight in hotel.
  • Day 10: Hoi An - Da Nang - Nha Trang (B)
The car takes us to Da Nang airport for the flight to the Vietnamese “holiday paradise” of Nha Trang where there are many options such as mud baths, island boat trips and an 8km long beach. This is your opportunity to relax a little from the pace of the tour to date with two days in this holiday town. We sleep in a local hotel tonight.
  • Day 11: Nha Trang - Overnight train to Saigon (B)
Opt 1: Train. Tonight we will start for HCM City on our second overnight sleeper train, so today is a free day in Nha Trang to explore the sights and sample the various options until we are taken to the railway station in time to catch the train to Ho Chi Minh City.

Opt 2: Plane. You could choose fast way to return Sai Gon and spend time to explore the busy city in the night. Overnight in Sai Gon.

  • Day 12: Saigon - Cu Chi Tunnel (B/L)
In the morning we leave the train in Ho Chi Minh City to check into our hotel. HCM City is the official name of the city, but the name Saigon is still commonly used.
In the first half of the day we will take a coach to the outskirts of the city to experience the famous Cu Chi fighting tunnels which were never found by the US military. This location provides some optional extras which your tour guide will explain. On return there will be time for shopping and sightseeing in the city.
  • Day 13: Saigon - Mekong Delta (B/L)
With memories of our home stay in Mai Chau still fresh, from HCM City we travel south west by coach to the Mekong Delta area for another home-stay at Vinh Long. We transfer from the coach to boat, as the best way to get around and see life on the Mekong is on the water. Previous tour members have said that these opportunities to meet the locals are the highlight of the tour.
  • Day 14: Mekong Delta - Saigon (B/L/D)
We come back to HCM City. After the return to the city we have left the afternoon free for shopping or the option of a visit to the War Museum. This evening we have our Farewell Dinner with the tour leader on the Saigon River during an evening boat cruise.
  • Day 15: Saigon Departure (B)
This is the saddest day of all – the day we must say goodbye to our new friends, both local and tour members as we go our separate ways to return to our homes. We receive a group photograph, exchange contact details and catch the coach to Tan Son Nhat airport for our flights back home. See you again soon.
